Proposition 1 in King County, Washington State, will provide funding for Transit and Roads. If it does not pass on April 22 there will be a 17% cut in bus services across the county.

This animation shows 24 hours of Metro activity, over 200 bus routes on more than 12,000 trips. In this animation every bus is on time. Each bus is represented by a black dot that moves between stops. The bus positions are computed every 6 seconds of real time, though the bus routes are approximated as straight lines between stops (faint grey dots).
I created this visualization of Metro activity to show how integral the bus system is to daily life in Seattle. Simply mapping the bus stops traces every major street and boundary in the city. The Metro system provides over 115,400,000 passenger trips per year.

This video shows a short clip of a worker replacing a cutting tool inside the SR 99 tunneling machine in January 2014. Crews working for Seattle Tunnel Partners (STP), WSDOT’s contractor for the SR 99 Tunnel Project, changed a number of tools during 158 hours of recent inspections performed under hyperbaric conditions. Tunneling experts now believe that the clogs and other factors contributed to the stoppage of tunneling on Dec. 6, 2013. As the project’s design-build contractor, it is STP’s responsibility to determine the best and most expedient way to resume tunneling.

An analysis of 23 recently completed Seattle-area multifamily housing developments reveals that the practice of providing abundant “cheap” parking actually makes rental housing more expensive—particularly for tenants with modest incomes and who don’t own cars.
Our hometown Seattle will soon be eclipsed by another city (a more conservative one!) when it comes to bicycle infrastructure. The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) recently approved a $200 million, ten-year plan to build out 77 miles of new bikeways. Many of the 42 projects are focused on completing two bike corridors that have been on the drawing board for years, the 44-mile Coastal Rail Trail and the 21-mile Inland Rail Trail…It’s another example of a region taking charge of its transportation future, and not waiting for Congress to fund its needs.
