In 2014, GAO found (1) that many aviation stakeholders saw challenges with aspects of the current U.S. system including funding instability and slow progress implementing capital improvements and (2) that most stakeholders agreed that separating ATC operations from FAA was an option. AIRPORT COOPERATIVE RESEARCH PROGRAM
As major consumers of water, airports have an obligation to be responsible environmental stewards in the community by increasing the efficiency of their water use and decreasing the amount of energy they spend to heat and pump that water. These changes can lower airports’ costs, improving the financial as well as the environmental sustainability of their operations.
Plattsburgh International Airport is currently undergoing a $55 Million Dollar expansion. The airport will remain operational during the expected 2 year construction project. Travelers are reminded to plan accordingly, allowing extra travel time for arrival at the airport.

UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY OFFICE
Airports’ planned capital development costs for fiscal years 2015 through 2019 are estimated at $13 billion annually (in 2013 dollars). Larger airports account for 65 percent of the planned development. For AIP-eligible projects, the largest shares of planned development costs are for projects to reconstruct facilities ($2.2 billion), meet the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) airport design standards ($2.1 billion), and enhance airfield capacity ($977 million).
GLOBAL GATEWAY ALLIANCE
Automated Customs kiosks have dramatically reduced wait times for arriving international passengers at both JFK and Newark Liberty airports, the busiest international arrivals airports in the country, according to a new study today by the Global Gateway Alliance.
UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today that U.S. airlines and foreign airlines serving the United States carried an all-time high of 848.1 million systemwide (domestic and international) scheduled service passengers in 2014, 2.5 percent more than in 2013 and 1.2 percent more than the previous record-high of 838.4 million reached in 2007.

New York area airports continue to lag behind their international and national competitors when it comes to modern, efficient mass transit access, according to a new survey released today by the Global Gateway Alliance, comparing airport access at the world’s top 30 busiest airports for passenger traffic with those in the New York-New Jersey region.
