Most of the major infrastructure projects funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act were completed during the year. The largest of these projects was construction of more than 1,300 miles of “middle mile” fiber optic cable.

Washington, DC: Freezing the Ground for the First Street Tunnel

DC Water’s Contractor (SKJD) will utilize an innovative ground freezing technology to improve ground condition in advance of shaft, adit and near surface construction of the First Street Tunnel Project. By creating a natural gas generated closed loop brine system, the ground will be stabilized in advance of excavation. Ground Freezing ensures that the required excavation in the four construction staging areas for this important project will be fully stabilized.
