The first passenger train in more than 60 years rolled into downtown Santa Monica on July 29, 2015 as part of the initial train testing for the future extension of the Metro Expo Line….Once complete, the Expo Line, which currently runs from downtown L.A. to Culver City, will be extended 6.6 miles ending at 4th Street and Colorado Avenue in downtown Santa Monica just steps away from the Santa Monica Pier and the Pacific Ocean.

WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Short line railroads are those lines that fall below regional railroad classification, are at least 350 miles and/or have revenue above $37 million but less than Class I standards, as well as all switching and terminal railroads. Washington State has nearly 1,400 miles of short lines, in both private and public sector ownership.
RISKY BUSINESS
The Southeast U.S. and Texas are experiencing an economic boom, mostly due to manufacturing and energy industry growth. But that boom is at risk from unchecked climate change, which could render this region—already one of the hottest and most weather-vulnerable of the country—at significant economic risk. However, if policymakers and business leaders act aggressively to adapt to the changing climate and to mitigate future impacts by reducing their carbon emissions, this region can lead in responding to climate risk. The Southeast can demonstrate to national and global political leaders the kind of strong response necessary to ensure a strong economic future.
In 2014, the Hawaii State Department of Education developed its Converged Infrastructure Initiative to deliver campus-wide WiFi to all schools. This was an undertaking by the Hawaii DOE’s Office of Information Technology Services and Office of School Facilities and Support Services. The initiative would affect 255 schools and more than 170,000 students.

TRANSPORTATION FOR AMERICA
The St. Louis region has done substantial planning to identify key transit projects that will offer more transportation options, improve access to opportunity and attract talent — and the thousands of jobs now relocating to be near that talent nationally. The region has also instituted local sources of transit funding and has utilized those sources to expand transit in advance of further state or federal funding. However, without the identification of a new source(s) of funding, the region cannot move forward with any major expansion to their transit network.
A Montana Department of Transportation bridge replacement project received honors in the 2015 America’s Transportation Awards competition. The announcement Wednesday was made at the 2015 Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials annual meeting. The project, “Deep Creek Canyon Weekend Bridge Replacement” won in the Best Use of Innovation category for the WASHTO region.

Since 1987, the Oregon Department of Transportation has worked with partners to preserve, enhance and reconnect the Historic Columbia River Highway from an old road to a state trail with international significance. Much work has been accomplished – 63 of the original 73 miles are now open to travel. Only 10 miles are needed to complete the connection.

METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS
The metropolitan Washington region’s leaders have recognized the fundamental role infrastructure plays in the ability to maintain and improve the region. However, despite regional recognition of the importance of maintaining our infrastructure, infrastructure investment is often a challenge for many organizations. Officials at the federal, state, and local level must balance an enormous number of funding needs, and sufficient funds often are not available for infrastructure needs.
