Advanced energy sources that use little or no fuel, such as wind, solar, hydropower, fuel cells, and energy storage create opportunities for corporations to capture savings and hedge against energy price volatility. The price of advanced energy sources has decreased dramatically during the past decade, and companies are increasingly seeking to purchase power from these resources in order to increase competitiveness and achieve corporate responsibility targets. A growing number of corporations have set formal goals for purchasing renewable energy, which they are integrating into their operations and decision making.

REGIONAL PLAN ASSOCIATION
This report seeks to add to our understanding of the health impacts of long term urban planning decisions. How do planning decisions such as investment in a subway line, the creation of a park or the redevelopment of a neighborhood affect health outcomes decades later? To answer that question we need to look at not only how individual localities work alone, but how clusters of cities, towns and villages work together.
AMERICAN COUNCIL OF ENGINEERING COMPANIES (ACEC)
A federal effort to create a 3D spatial standard of all U.S. transportation assets should help accelerate implementation of smart infrastructure, while also providing new opportunities for engineering firms.
Heidi Goedhart, UDOT’s Active Transportation Manager, helps us understand what “Active Transportation” means to Utah. She talks about UDOT’s programs to keep cyclists and pedestrians safe on Utah roads, and also discusses what we are doing to promote safety in alternative modes of transportation. A BETTER CITY
Based on our projections, the conclusion is pretty straightforward. As a region we must find ways to expand our infrastructure, enhance the efficiency with which we use it, and find ways to conserve energy, water, and open space in order to accommodate the population growth and expanded economic output we project through 2030. The complexity lies in determining which course to take and ultimately how to pay for it.
Howard Jennings is Managing Director of Mobility Lab, a source of research and best practices for advocates to increase awareness and education about more and advanced transportation options for people.
“The basic infrastructure is something that people find pretty easy to take for granted, and it creeps up on them and they don’t realize that it’s getting worse and worse and worse. And so we at Mobility Lab are trying to put the emphasis back on helping people recognize that their quality of life is eroding and their ability to spend time with their family, the stress of their day-to-day lives and all these things are a result of our collective failure to invest in infrastructure…”
