“When you look throughout history, when there is a combination of climate change, resource depletion, and enormous income inequality, civilizations fall apart, and we see collapse. And when there’s a lot of social cohesion, then civilizations are able to overcome some of the stresses they’re facing. And so these issues are all interrelated, and as much as we need behavior changes and energy-systems changes, and a lot of technological and certainly infrastructure changes to deal with climate change, at the root we also need to create a more equitable social system to accomplish them.”

Monday, September 19th, 2016“Imagine Transportation” Community Crowdsourcing: What We’ve Heard
Friday, July 15th, 2016We asked 800+ organizations across all 10 counties: What changes to transportation would make the biggest difference to the populations or clients you serve? You told us we that there are many good reasons for working together to improve and invest our regional transportation system!! In addition to these problems, you gave many suggestions for the types of projects or changes that would help solve these problems. Now the RTA is sorting through those responses as well as looking at what other regions and experts have done to identify opportunities for new investment that will address these problems of regional connectivity and mobility.

Thursday, June 2nd, 2016MINETA TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE
Immigration to the United States is growing. Over the next four decades, many immigrants will come from Latin America with few resources, relying on public transit, bicycling, and walking to meet their transportation needs. Previous research on low-income immigrant travel has relied on national surveys and qualitative analysis, which underrepresent disadvantaged population groups and slower modes of travel, or are unable to speak to broader patterns in the population. This study addresses additional research needs by exploring the travel behavior and experiences of low-income immigrants.
Guest on The Infra Blog: Howard Jennings, Managing Director, Mobility Lab
Thursday, May 26th, 2016Howard Jennings is Managing Director of Mobility Lab, a source of research and best practices for advocates to increase awareness and education about more and advanced transportation options for people.
“The basic infrastructure is something that people find pretty easy to take for granted, and it creeps up on them and they don’t realize that it’s getting worse and worse and worse. And so we at Mobility Lab are trying to put the emphasis back on helping people recognize that their quality of life is eroding and their ability to spend time with their family, the stress of their day-to-day lives and all these things are a result of our collective failure to invest in infrastructure…”

As part of the Blueprint 2025 initiative focused on developing a roadmap for the U.S. presidential administration that will take office on January 20, 2017, CG/LA Infrastructure has just completed a survey of just over 120 infrastructure professionals, from both the public and private sectors, across the United States. The purpose of the survey was to identify how the professional U.S. infrastructure community – across all sectors, geographies and disciplines – views the current state of U.S. infrastructure.

Friday, April 29th, 2016MIDWEST INTERSTATE PASSENGER RAIL COMMISSION
The survey identifies strong support for passenger rail as an integral piece of the national transportation future, and even finds strong willingness to advocate on behalf of passenger rail. But the survey also shows that neither students nor – by inference – the general public are aware of the roles played by states and the federal government in funding Amtrak and in determining passenger rail routes and service frequencies. Thus we strongly recommend that a public education campaign be considered to clarify this point.
Infographic: It Ain’t Easy Bein’ GREEN
Friday, April 22nd, 2016The good news is that 79% of Americans agree that they consider themselves an environmentally conscious person, and only 6% strongly disagree with that statement. But as it turns out, it ain’t easy bein’ green. Only 26% of Americans say that they actually consider the environment in their daily actions beyond recycling and turning off the lights. Moreover, people have widely varying opinions on what’s the best way to reduce their home’s carbon footprint. When they do agree, it’s not always on the highest impact methods.
