Update: based on some feedback to our story, look for TIGER grants to be announced late in the week of June 11 or early in the week of June 18.
When will USDOT announce the TIGER grants? Many people have contacted me in the last week asking that question. I decided to ask a number of DC insiders what they are hearing.
The answers ranged from:
- “this week”
- “USDOT is currently reaching out to a few applicants for more information, so announcement is probably late June”
- “second week of June”
- “end of month”
- “currently being reviewed at White House, expect second or third week of June”
So no one seems to know for sure. I still think the announcements come mid to late June. USDOT is required to notify House and Senate Appropriations Committee members in advance of grants in their state or district. While that information is supposed to be held private until the USDOT announcement, the news always leaks out.
Meanwhile, the Senate Appropriations Committee passed a bill that included funding for a 2013 TIGER program, while the House’s draft transportation bill excludes funding for 2013 TIGER program.
