NYC: “Solar for Sandy” Installation

In October 2013, Global Green USA, with the support of IKEA and the NYC Dept. of Parks and Recreation, announced the Red Hook Recreation Center as the recipient of the first, official ‘Solar For Sandy’ install…’Solar For Sandy’ will bring renewed resilience to the Red Hook community as it continues to recover from the superstorm. This is the first of five community facilities in New York/New Jersey that will receive grid-tied, back-up solar energy systems. We also conducted a pilot install in Far Rockaway, NY last summer.

Lake Washington, WA: Coffer Cell Launch

On Nov. 26, 2013, SR 520 bridge construction crews launched a 660-ton coffer cell onto Lake Washington. This coffer cell will be used to create a dry work space so that crews can complete repairs to the end walls of Pontoon U and Pontoon V on Lake Washington.

Alleghany County, VA: Restoring the Historic Humpback Bridge

VDOT recently used funds from the National Historic Covered Bridge Program to restore the Humpback Bridge in Alleghany County. Built in 1857, Humpback is Virginia’s oldest covered bridge. It is a National Historic Landmark and the only bridge of its kind remaining in America.

The American Southwest: Are We Running Dry?

On the heels of the American Southwest’s drought, and in an effort to raise awareness, The Chronicles Group with support from grants from the California Water Association, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the Southern Nevada Water Authority and other public and private entities, Vegas PBS will present The American Southwest: Are We Running Dry? directed, written, and produced by Jim Thebaut, president of The Chronicles Group, a Los Angeles based non-profit public information/education film production company.

Tucson, AZ: Prince Road Update

The Prince Road project in Tucson is now in its final phase. To help get there, ADOT recently set 22-120 foot long girders over the Union Pacific Railroad. The challenge – lifting these 113-ton girders into place without affecting the 40-60 trains that go through that area each day.

Arizona DOT: Know Snow

“Ultimately, if you’re behind a plow, you’re going to get from point A to point B,” says snowplow driver Justen Williams.
The biggest challenge ADOT snowplow drivers face while plowing is other vehicles. If you find yourself near an active plow, the safest place for you to be is at least 50 feet behind it. Let the plow clear the road ahead before you drive on it.
