Saving Lives With Sustainable Transport

Today, more than half the world’s population live in cities. And another 1.5 billion people will be added to city populations by 2030. Over 1.2 million people die in traffic crashes every year. That’s eight Boeing 747’s every single day.

We present here how research-based transportation and public space solutions that save lives.

This video draws on examples from examples from Brazil, India, Mexico, and Turkey. We look at how traffic fatalities, injuries, and crashes can be reduced through Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), more cycling and walking, as well as better city design.

Arizona DOT: Progress on the US 89 Cameron Roadway

The Arizona Department of Transportation is improving US 89 between State Route 64 and the Little Colorado River through Cameron on the Navajo Nation, located approximately 50 miles north of Flagstaff. This project is planned to be constructed in two main phases, with completion anticipated in Fall 2016.

Ophir, OR: Replacing a Washed-Out Highway

Monday, January 5th, 2015

Tidewater Contractors is wrapping up replacement of a washed out culvert on U.S. 101 at Ophir, about 10 miles north of Gold Beach. The highway sank on the afternoon of Dec. 21, causing ODOT to detour Oregon Coast Highway traffic to Ophir Road.
