Across this country, 85% of our citizens now live in cities and metropolitan economies. 89% of the jobs are in the cities and in metropolitan economies. 91% of America’s nearly $20 trillion GDP is created in cities and metropolitan economies. We are driving the economic growth of this country. And our message is that by partnering with mayors, by looking at the creative solutions that are being deployed all across this country, seeing the innovative ideas, seeing the massive investment in infrastructure, but also embracing the idea of inclusion and ways in which we can all move forward together, is the way to go…We’re always coming around the table. That’s the strength, I believe, of being a mayor and having to always listen to every opinion, not gerrymandered ideas with narrow constituencies. We’re going to continue to do that.

South Carolina must improve its system of roads, highways and bridges to foster economic growth and keep businesses in the state. In addition to economic growth, transportation improvements are needed to ensure safe, reliable mobility and quality of life for all South Carolinians. Meeting South Carolina’s need to modernize and maintain its system of roads, highways and bridges will require a significant boost in local, state and federal funding.

There are several actions which would help to maintain the character of Charleston: 1) creating more viable alternatives to driving, 2) Offering more ways for visitors to enter the historic districts by means other than the automobile, and 3) following a strategic parking plan that includes more remote parking and facilitates public transit. Sustainable growth and economic development of the Charleston Peninsula will require transportation alternatives to be developed over the next ten years.

View this complete post...We can engineer the pavement material to have porosity. We can engineer voids into the material so that instead of 4% air voids, we can have up to 20% air voids that allow water to penetrate through the pavement surface.
With the porous pavement option, we have water flowing through the surface of the pavement and into the stone where we can store the water. Then it will eventually infiltrate into the natural sub-grade that we have underneath.
