Mark Gorton interviews award-winning journalist Charles Montgomery about his fantastic new book “Happy City: Transforming Our Lives Thru Urban Design,” which delves in to the hard-to-measure metric of happiness and how the built environment of the place we live directly affects us.
It’s only a short discussion of what’s in “Happy City” but Mark and Charles discuss unique ways of measuring happiness thru neuro-science, behavioral economics, and psychology. It also ends up touching on quite a few New York City places like Times Square, the Lower East Side and Jackson Heights, Queens.
As people continue to move back to cities, Mr. Montgomery takes a comprehensive look at the exurbs and how commuters lives are being made less happy thru their housing and employment choices. In the end, Charles and Mark discuss some simple ideas leaders and communities should stick to, to improve the lives of the people that live there.
