The first outside (alternative) proposal to be formally submitted includes a soaring train hall harkening back to the original, a new expansive public park, and classical design engineered by Chief Architect Alexandros Washburn
The nonprofit Grand Penn Community Alliance (GrandPenn.org) will become the first independent design team to formally submit a comprehensive proposal to the federal government and the State of New York for a reimagining of Pennsylvania Station.
The project team, led by chief architect and former chief urban designer for New York City Alexandros Washburn, will share its ambitious plan at an unveiling at The New York Historical.
Members of the media are invited to a first glimpse of the cost-effective and innovative proposal, which will restore Penn Station to its glorious past by creating soaring indoor spaces, a park the size of Bryant Park in a neighborhood hungry for open space, and an embrace of classical architecture. This preferred alternative for Penn Station will revitalize the surrounding neighborhood and make Penn Station a world class transit hub with easier access to and from the station and its platforms.
