New York area airports continue to lag behind their international and national competitors when it comes to modern, efficient mass transit access, according to a new survey released today by the Global Gateway Alliance, comparing airport access at the world’s top 30 busiest airports for passenger traffic with those in the New York-New Jersey region. Transportation for America has closely followed efforts in legislatures across the country to put transportation funding on sound footing. This report highlights critical factors common to many of the campaigns and closely examines several successful campaigns. Learning successful strategies and tactics from other states can be a valuable way for advocates, legislators, and local leaders to build winning campaigns in their own states.
THE BRATTLE GROUP
The United States (“U.S.”) power system is undergoing a fundamental transformation, largely driven by advances in technology and low natural gas prices. This transformation is putting significant pressure on existing coal-fired and even nuclear generation, increasingly leads to renewable energy resources being cost-competitive with fossil-fired generation, and results in myriad choices for consumers that promise to permanently alter the role of demand in the power system. As a consequence, the fuel mix and associated emissions of the U.S. power system are changing rapidly, as are the actions taken by system operators to manage the quickly evolving electric system.
SMART GROWTH AMERICA
In 2014, more then 70 jurisdictions adopted Complete Streets policies. These laws, resolutions, agency policies, and planning and design documents establish a process for selecting, funding, planning, designing, and building transportation projects that allow safe access to destinations for everyone, regardless of age, ability, income, or ethnicity, and no matter how they travel.
AARP PUBLIC POLICY INSTITUTE
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) provides new but limited opportunities to promote or fund specialized transportation services for older people and adults with disabilities. This paper explains how states can use these largely untapped options to expand services for targeted low-income populations with mobility needs. It also presents two case studies illustrating how the Atlanta region and the state of Connecticut are making this work.

Rapid technological advances have enabled the creation of new transportation tools that make it possible for more Americans to live full and engaged lives without owning a car. Many of these new tools have been in existence for less than a decade – some for less than five years – but they have spread rapidly to cities across the United States.
Airports have historically incorporated BMPs to comply with these requirements, such as stormwater detention ponds and vegetated swales, many of which have exposed open water, vegetation, and other design characteristics that attract wildlife. Research shows that 10 of the 15 bird species most hazardous to aircraft are highly attracted to these types of water features (DeVault et al. 2011)…To address this hazardous wildlife concern, the FAA has established guidelines for airport stormwater management to provide for aircraft safety.
