Approximately 20 percent of the SR 99 tunnel was designed to be built without Bertha, the SR 99 tunneling machine. Seattle Tunnel Partners bored more than 1,000 feet of tunnel before they stopped to repair Bertha. Since then, they have built an additional 1,200 feet of tunnel using cut-and-cover tunnel construction. DISTRICT DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
The goal of Vision Zero is straight-forward: zero fatalities and serious injuries in our transportation system, because no loss of life is acceptable. Vision Zero was first adopted in Sweden in 1997. Since then, fatal and serious injuries in Sweden have consistently declined, despite a regular increase in people driving, walking, biking, and using transit.
The DC Power Line Undergrounding (DC PLUG) project represents a public-private partnership between the District government and Pepco that will result in the strategic undergrounding of overhead feeders in Wards 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8…Through this initiative, the high-voltage feeders most affected by outages will be installed underground. Approximately half of the District is already served by undergound lines. Secondary and service lines will remain overhead on the existing poles.

The World Green Building Trends 2016 study focuses on the growth of green globally with a total of over 1,000 survey participants from 69 countries. Where the previous studies conducted in 2008 and 2012 relied primarily on responses from GBC members, this new study features a higher proportion of design and construction practitioners, like architects and contractors, who are not GBC members, demonstrating the exciting expansion of green around the world.

This study has identified a significant disparity in road crash mortality risk between pedestrians who use wheelchairs and those who do not. These findings underscore the need for policymakers and planners to fully incorporate disability accommodations into pedestrian infrastructure and for persons who use wheelchairs—and others with disabilities—to remain a salient population when road safety interventions are designed. Finally, additional research to better understand would be valuable to better understand what causes the disparities identified in this study.
