Households and businesses depend on the efficient and reliable delivery of freight to both urban and rural areas. Federal support for freight increased under the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, as the FAST Act included provisions to define, establish, and provide funding for a national highway freight program. The FAST Act freight provisions were designed to address significant needs in the transportation system to ensure that projected increases in freight volumes can be handled efficiently across all transportation modes.

Walker wanted to make up the deficit by increasing taxes, but this idea was rejected by state lawmakers. Without the additional state funding though, Alaska will have to rely on help from the federal government. By supplying $280 million in state funds on its own, Alaska would receive $1.1 billion in matching funds from federal funding. Critics of the proposal note that Alaska is currently running out of savings, and faces a $2.4 billion deficit.

The United States’ population has exceeded 400 million. The demand for mobility has increased with the population and improved access to transportation, especially for groups that previously had limited mobility options. It’s thanks to some amazing strides we’ve made since the 2010s in several different areas. Nearly all vehicles, including motorcycles, now have high levels of vehicle automation, whether they are self-driving or human-driven. Almost all cars now brake automatically, warn drivers about objects in their blind spots, park themselves, adjust their speed, and stay in their lanes. While crashes still happen, there are many fewer of them.

View this complete post...UDOT crews will work on 188 highway construction projects scheduled across the state this year, with a combined value of $1.46 billion. Planned improvements range from small sidewalk and street light installations, to the rebuilding of a 12-lane section of urban freeway. Within the Top 10, projects include widening and rebuilding freeways, constructing new interchanges or redesigning existing ones, and repaving and upgrading other local/regional highways.
