In this edition, we visit the Sinking Creek Watershed in Laurel County. The watershed, which feeds into the Rockcastle River is a ‘Kentucky Outstanding Resource Water,’ because of the animals that inhabit it — including endangered mussels…To keep the waters as pure as possible, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) encourages residents and businesses in the watershed to apply road salt wisely during the winter months.

Through extensive research, the Mississippi Economic Council’s Blueprint Mississippi Transportation Infrastructure Task Force has determined it is vital that Mississippi increase its investment in state and local transportation infrastructure. The Task Force understands that an investment in transportation is needed for the following reasons: increased vehicle fuel efficiency and inflation are shrinking the purchasing power of our current revenue; an expanding number of highways, roads, and bridges in poor or deficient condition is risking the safety of our drivers and handicapping businesses with a deteriorating system of receiving and delivering goods and products; and ignoring the problem now will only lead to exponentially greater costs for maintenance and rehabilitation in the future.

During a recent trip to Chicago, I captured some beautiful time lapses of the very very busy Chicago airport. This airport has a massive traffic jam of plans going all over the place. I tried to capture some of the insane amount of planes in the time lapse.

Approximately 20 percent of the SR 99 tunnel was designed to be built without Bertha, the SR 99 tunneling machine. Seattle Tunnel Partners bored more than 1,000 feet of tunnel before they stopped to repair Bertha. Since then, they have built an additional 1,200 feet of tunnel using cut-and-cover tunnel construction. This video gives a close-up look inside the newest part of the project to learn more about the tunnel built without Bertha.
