Kathryn Phillips is the Director of the California Transportation and Air Initiative at Environmental Defense Fund. Before joining Environmental Defense, Kathryn was the senior policy advisor at the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies (CEERT) in Sacramento, and a lobbyist for V. John White Associates. Kathryn also worked for nearly 20 years as a journalist. She wrote for newspapers and magazines on a range of topics, specializing in the later years on science and environmental issues. She is the author of two books about environmental issues.

Will Friedman joined Public Agenda in 1994, founded the public engagement department in 1996 and has overseen a steady and expanding stream of work aimed at helping communities build capacity to tackle tough issues in more inclusive, deliberative and collaborative ways. In 2006, he established Public Agenda’s Center for Advances in Public Engagement, which conducts action research to assess impacts and improve practice.

Public Agenda, an innovative public opinion research and public engagement organization, works to strengthen our democracy’s capacity to tackle tough public policy issues.

DPZ is widely recognized as a leader of the New Urbanism, which seeks to end suburban sprawl and urban disinvestment. Duany has authored several books, including “The Smart Growth Manual” (most recently) and “Suburban Nation: The Rise of Sprawl and the Decline of the American Dream.”

Robert D. Yaro is the President of Regional Plan Association, America’s oldest independent metropolitan policy, research and advocacy group. Mr. Yaro co-chairs the Empire State Alliance and the Friends of Moynihan Station, and is Vice President of the Forum of Urban Design. He serves on Mayor Bloomberg’s Sustainability Advisory Board, which helped prepare PlaNYC 2030, New York City’s new long-range sustainability plan. “I think if you just use the word “infrastructure” people tend to think it’s going to be boring, but, for instance, the moment you start to think about how long it takes to get to work every day, getting stuck in traffic, or having the train run on time, people really care about these things…you don’t really think of Americans voting to raise their taxes for things, but people are aware, and I don’t know that we’re going to have a civil rights era like people marching in the streets for this, but perhaps they will. I think maybe there’s more awareness than we give people credit for…if there was ever a time when the infrastructure in some ways was in the public dialogue, it’s right now…”
