Washington State DOT: First Drive on the SR 520 Floating Bridge

At 3:50 a.m. on April 11, 2016, WSDOT Incident Response Team drivers completed the maiden voyage across the new SR 520 floating bridge. The westbound lanes on the new bridge are now open to all drivers. Eastbound lanes will switch to the new bridge during the weekend of April 22-25.

Outstanding Engineering - Michigan's "96fix"

96fix was the largest single-season construction project in state history. Reconstruction of the seven-mile stretch of the 40-year-old freeway included the rehabilitation of 37 bridges, installation of LED lighting and storm sewers, and safety improvements. The $153 million project was completed early and under budget, and brought I-96 in line with current standards. Innovative technologies included visual modeling to gain public support for closing the freeway during construction and 3-D design model for fine-tuning paving work. The process saved taxpayer dollars, cut freeway closure time, and improved pavement quality and safety.

Arizona DOT: Replacing the Hell Canyon Bridge

Hell Canyon Bridge on State Route 89 is located 18 miles north of Chino Valley and serves as a key connection linking Prescott and northern Arizona…ADOT is constructing a new four-span steel-plate girder bridge to the east of the existing bridge and removing the existing three-span steel deck truss bridge, which has been classified as structurally deficient by bridge inspectors.
