AMERICA 2050 & REGIONAL PLAN ASSOCIATION
Over the next generation, the 13-state Northeast Megaregion is expected to grow by 26%, adding about 18 million residents. To assess the implications of this change for landscape conservation, Regional Plan Association and America 2050’s Northeast Landscape Initiatives Atlas now includes maps showing historic and current land use, and projections of future urban growth in the Northeast Megaregion through 2040.
RECONNECTING AMERICA
This report documents real estate development patterns along three recently constructed light rail transit lines in the United States. This topic is important for local planning practitioners, transit agencies, community members and other stakeholders in their efforts to plan for new transit investments and foster transit-oriented development (TOD). Setting realistic expectations about the scale, timing and location of private investment along new transit lines is especially critical where new development is expected to help pay for needed transit improvements, neighborhood amenities, or other community benefits.
THE IOWA POLICY PROJECT
Can solar energy help build the Iowa economy? This analysis answers that question with a resounding “Yes.” Iowa has almost all the right ingredients on hand: demonstrated ability to be a renewable energy leader with wind power, a solar energy industry that already employs people across the state, and more sunshine than New Jersey or Germany, both leading global solar markets.
The ARRA’s enactment represented a dramatic attempt to resuscitate a U.S. economy in free-fall…Two years later, the Recovery Act’s public investments have not only saved and created millions of jobs, but have also represented an unprecedented down payment on the nation’s emerging green economy. As outlined in this report, Rebuilding Green: The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Green Economy, the success of that down payment makes a strong case for additional public investment in the green economy as a centerpiece of a national strategy to solve the continuing unemployment crisis.
