The FID’s existing open ditch irrigation system wasn’t reliable, agricultural runoff was causing water quality issues, and the system was wasting water resources. To help solve the issues, the FID used CWSRF loans to pipe and pressurize the irrigation system and to install in-pipe hydroelectric generators. The enhanced system provides irrigators reliable access to water; a range of water-savings irrigation options; and reduced labor costs and conserves six billion gallons of water annually.

A few months ago, I was in Austin, Texas for the NACTO 2015 Summit. Although I was quite busy and we got hit with a major rainstorm of epic proportions, I was able to shoot enough video to put together a limited look at what is going on in the city. Even more fortunate, soon after the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) named Austin their 22nd Gold status bike city near the end of 2015, making Austin the first city in Texas to claim the honor.

By the summer of 2010 in Manette, Washington, the people of this quiet community by the water had learned that soon they would have to say goodbye to an old friend–a friend that had been with them for 80 years and had served their community year-in and year-out; a strong, faithful companion who, now ravaged by time and the elements, would be unable to continue.
