North Dakota Oil Boom Calls for Rework of Infrastructure

North Dakota is one of the most remote places in the United States, or should we say ‘was’ one of the most remote. Thanks to an abundance of natural resources, particularly oil, North Dakota is no longer as open as its range used to be…The Minot International Airport, originally built just 20 years ago, is one project under construction to handle the increase in flight and foot traffic in the region. NECA Contractor Main Electric Construction Inc., and their IBEW 714 craftsmen are building it.

Denver, CO: Meet Fred Estrian, the Walk-Signal Guy

In 2015, there were 1,330 pedestrian crashes and 59 pedestrian crash fatalities in Colorado. To educate pedestrians and drivers on the importance of safety and observing pedestrian laws, particularly around crosswalks and intersections, the Colorado Department of Transportation’s introduced Fred Estrian: the classic walk signal brought to life. Fred took to the streets of Denver to educate drivers and pedestrians alike on the important of using and remaining alert at crosswalks.

Testing Hydrogen Fueling Infrastructure

Recently, researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory wanted to know, how well does NREL’s hydrogen infrastructure support fueling multiple fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) for a day trip to the Rocky Mountains? The answer-great! NREL staff took FCEVs on a trip to demonstrate real-world performance and range in high-altitude conditions. To start the trip, drivers filled three cars at NREL’s hydrogen fueling station. The cars made a 175-mile loop crossing two 11,000+ foot mountain passes on the way. Back at NREL, the cars were filled up with hydrogen in ~5 minutes and ready to go again.

Utah DOT: Protecting Both Drivers and Wildlife

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) crews started building one mile of wildlife fencing on westbound I-80 near Jeremy Ranch on Friday. The new wildlife fencing is the first phase in a long-term plan to reduce wildlife and vehicle collisions in Parleys Canyon.

Utah DOT: The Point Project Now Complete

The barrels are gone, all lanes are open, and The Point project on I-15 is now officially complete. This two-year, $215 million project widened I-15 to six lanes in each direction between 12300 South in Draper and S.R. 92 in Lehi, a distance of approximately seven miles.
