Wednesday, October 29th, 2014This video highlights the construction milestones of the Milton-Madison Bridge, which include the rising of the trusses into place on temporary piers…the blasts that brought down the old bridge…and the amazing slide of the new bridge onto its permanent piers. The half-mile structure was slid 55 feet making this the longest bridge slide of its type in North America — perhaps the world.

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014The new bridge will be constructed adjacent to the existing bridge and traffic will be diverted to the new bridge in its temporary location. The old structure was demolished and the new bridge was slid into place. Bridge slide technology greatly reduces the amount of time a bridge is out of service. M-50 was closed and detoured for only two weekends (during demolition and during the slide), as opposed to a multiple-month closure typically associated with a traditional bridge replacement.

Thursday, October 16th, 2014In 1949, the Virginia Department of Highways, now VDOT, did a traffic study along Route 29 in Arlington. A few years ago, VDOT discovered an old reel of 16mm film taken during the study. We shot a drive-along of the Lee Highway in 2014 to show how this busy corridor has grown in the past 65 years.

Tuesday, October 7th, 2014Wyoming Department of Transportation’s $146.2 million Togwottee Trail to Yellowstone project increased safety and mobility by upgrading a 50-year-old road on a major route leading to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. New under-crossings were built so wildlife and snowmobilers can pass under the highway safely. New shoulders, passing lanes, and upgraded bridges and parking facilities allow a safe trip through some of America’s most beautiful scenery. Wyoming Department of Transportation’s Togwottee Trail to Yellowstone project was recognized as a Regional Winner in the 2014 America’s Transportation Awards competition and it is also a Top 10 finalist, competing for the National Grand Prize and the People’s Choice Award.
