A few months ago, I was in Austin, Texas for the NACTO 2015 Summit. Although I was quite busy and we got hit with a major rainstorm of epic proportions, I was able to shoot enough video to put together a limited look at what is going on in the city. Even more fortunate, soon after the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) named Austin their 22nd Gold status bike city near the end of 2015, making Austin the first city in Texas to claim the honor.

Here in Illinois we’ve been seeing a lot more interest in doing true high speed rail and we think we’re close to an important next step there. And I was out in Sacramento two months ago and touched the first car shell for that line. That’s something that most people don’t know: those trains really are under construction, and the stations are under construction. So we’re very close to a major tipping point.

VERMONT TRANSPORTATION BOARD
According to the State Smart Transportation Initiative, a transportation research organization based at the University of Wisconsin, vehicle miles traveled per person in the U.S. has dropped every year since. By 2013, the last year for which the Transportation Board could find statistics, the average American drove more than 6 percent fewer miles per year than in 2005…This trend not only holds true in Vermont, but locals appear to be leading the charge. In 2007, Vermonters drove an annual average of 12,400 miles. But in 2013, Vermonters, according to VTrans, drove an average of just 11,356 miles, which is an 8.4 percent drop.

In 2015, Sustainable Cleveland celebrated clean water to better connect people to their water resources to help restore, conserve and protect this valuable asset. This video is part of a larger video series that highlights different organizations, community leaders, and projects that are taking action to help clean our water. This video illustrates how NEORSD, Cleveland Metroparks, Cuyahoga River Restoration, Holden Arboretum and Western Reserve Land Conservancy are all leading the way in green infrastructure. INITIATIVE ON CITIES
Mayors overwhelmingly believe that physical infrastructure is one of the greatest challenges facing their city. Mayors were asked to identify the greatest challenge they face which falls outside their control—in other words, a challenge that is typically the purview of other levels of government. “Think about the next five years and beyond. What ONE trend or issue that you primarily think should be a state and/or federal matter will pose the biggest challenge to your city?” Importantly, this question did not query mayors about challenges to their cities generally, which was explored in last year’s report.
We set out to cover New York City’s 2nd biggest snowstorm since 1869. Central Park total snow accumulation at the end of the winter storm was 26.8 inches.
