Warwick, Rhode Island: Barton Corner Bridge Replacement

Wednesday, October 8th, 2014

In August 2014 we completed replacement of the Barton Corner Bridge, which carries four lanes of I-95 plus two auxiliary lanes at a busy interchange with Route 2 on the Warwick/West Warwick line. Using accelerated bridge construction, we built two halves of the bridge on land adjacent to the overpass, and then moved them into place. This enabled us to build the bridge much faster compared with conventional construction methods, which would have taken twice the time. This approach also allowed us to do the work with no impact to Interstate traffic prior to installation.

America’s Transportation Awards Top 10 Project Profile: Wyoming DOT

Tuesday, October 7th, 2014

Wyoming Department of Transportation’s $146.2 million Togwottee Trail to Yellowstone project increased safety and mobility by upgrading a 50-year-old road on a major route leading to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. New under-crossings were built so wildlife and snowmobilers can pass under the highway safely. New shoulders, passing lanes, and upgraded bridges and parking facilities allow a safe trip through some of America’s most beautiful scenery. Wyoming Department of Transportation’s Togwottee Trail to Yellowstone project was recognized as a Regional Winner in the 2014 America’s Transportation Awards competition and it is also a Top 10 finalist, competing for the National Grand Prize and the People’s Choice Award. Total Growth in Miles Traveled

1000 FRIENDS OF WISCONSIN
Wisconsin is undergoing a marked shift in how people in the state are choosing to travel. Data show that the number of miles driven in the state has fallen, or has levelled off in the last ten years. This is in sharp contrast to previous decades, when people drove more each year, since the creation of the Interstate System in the 1960’s.

VOC, Congestion & Safety

TRIP
With a current unemployment rate of 7.4 percent and with the state’s population continuing to grow, California must improve its system of roads, highways and bridges to foster economic growth and keep businesses in the state. In addition to economic growth, transportation improvements are needed to ensure safe, reliable mobility and quality of life for all Californians. Meeting California’s need to modernize and maintain its system of roads, highways and bridges will require a significant boost in local, state and federal funding.
