Dr. Robert Paaswell, Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering at the City College of New York, is also the founding Director of the City University Institute for Urban Systems, a major University-wide initiative to examine the intersection of new technology, changing institutional structure and innovative finance on the provision of infrastructure in the 21 st Century. Sam Schwartz has nearly 40 years of experience in the field of Transportation Engineering and Traffic Safety. He is considered a worldwide authority in traffic, highway, bridge, transit and parking systems. He was New York City’s traffic commissioner and the chief engineer for highways, bridges, ferries and other New York City infrastructure. Schwartz specializes in development of urban traffic programs utilizing his expert knowledge in traffic demand management, transit systems management, traffic calming and transportation planning and engineering. He has been in the vanguard of Intelligent Transportation Systems development and wrote the seminal paper, Intelligent Traffic, which received the International Institute of Transportation Award in 1985. Schwartz is also the author of Gridlock Sam, a popular New York Daily News column addressing traffic matters in New York City. His links with multimedia networks are extensive, spanning radio, television and the internet.

Richard Ravitch serves as Lieutenant Governor of the State of New York. He was appointed by Governor David A. Paterson on July 8, 2009. Prior to his appointment, Lieutenant Governor Ravitch was a Partner in the law firm Ravitch, Rice & Co. and served as Chairman of the Commission on MTA Financing, which Governor Paterson formed to examine financing options for the MTA. In 1979, Lieutenant Governor Ravitch was appointed Chairman and CEO of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), overseeing the operation of the New York City subways and buses, the Long Island Railroad and MetroNorth commuter lines, and the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority. For his work at the MTA, Lieutenant Governor Ravitch was awarded the American Public Transit Association’s Individual of the Year Award in 1982. Lieutenant Governor Ravitch is a graduate of Columbia College and received an LLB from Yale University School of Law.

Kate Slevin is an activist and urban planner who joined the Tri-State Transportation Campaign in 2002 as the organization’s spokesperson, moving to the position of associate director in 2003 and executive director in 2007. Under Kate’s direction, TSTC has increased its operating budget by 30%, catalyzed transportation reform in Connecticut, developed new programs to empower local communities in Newark, and helped pass legislation in New York State that led to $2 billion in new funding for public transportation. She is the editor of the acclaimed Mobilizing the Region blog which tracks regional transportation news and opinion.
