Monday, December 20th, 2010“Our state has been a leader in this area,” Texas Department of Transportation Executive Director Amadeo Saenz recently told AASHTO’s Transportation TV. “These partnerships between states and a private companies are allowing TxDOT to build several major projects that otherwise would not be built. By moving these projects forward, we can eliminate traffic congestion, give our citizens shorter commutes, and create jobs.”

Newly elected GOP Governors in Ohio and Wisconsin wanted to kill high-speed rail projects in their states and instead use the money to fix their battered roads. Sorry, guys. Mr. LaHood reclaimed the $1.2 billion and handed it to 13 other states that still want to build these high-speed trains to nowhere.

This report explores scenarios for the dynamic expansion of electricity from renewable resources over the next decade…While renewable energy asset financing is projected to rise in the United States under all scenarios, the United States would benefit from strong clean energy policies. If enhanced national clean energy policies were enacted, investment would ramp up to $53 billion annually by 2020—a rise of 237 percent over 2010 levels.
Commission on Fiscal Responsibility Calls for Gas Tax Increase
Monday, December 6th, 2010A new report from the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform says that “Our nation is on an unsustainable fiscal path…The problem is real, and the solution will be painful.” The Commission recommends a 15-cent per gallon gas tax increase to fund transportation infrastructure.

TRI-STATE TRANSPORTATION CAMPAIGN
With some of the oldest infrastructure in the country, New Jersey has its work cut out maintaining the state’s roads and bridges. More than 9,500 bridges cross the state’s numerous waterways or lift traffic over roads, highways, and railroad tracks. The state currently spends hundreds of millions annually in federal, state, and local funding to maintain those bridges and ensure that they remain safe to cross, with the state portion coming out of the primary state transportation funding source, Transportation Trust Fund.

A majority of Wisconsinites polled between Nov. 15 and Nov. 17 oppose the Milwaukee-to-Madison rail project, and opposition grows slightly as respondents learn more about it, according to a poll sponsored by the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute. Thirty-six percent sided with the argument stating that “supporters of the passenger rail project say that it is an important addition to the transportation system in Wisconsin and is being paid for by 800 million dollars in federal money.
