These projects were gathered in 2012 from local sources including but not limited to, long range plans, discussions with local officials, and newspaper coverage. We understand that these projects are fluid and the estimates of cost as well as the projects themselves are subject to change frequently. This list should be seen as a snapshot in time and not a definitive source on the subject matter.

CALIFORNIA HIGH-SPEED RAIL AUTHORITY
WASHINGTON – Amtrak and the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) are joining forces in the search for proven high-speed rail (HSR) train sets currently being manufactured and in commercial service that are capable of operating safely at speeds up to 220 mph on both Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor (NEC) and on California’s developing HSR corridor.

As we enter the New Year (and begin our 24th year of publication), the debate about transportation funding is taking a new turn. Talk of raising the federal gas tax has become muted and even the efficacy of the gas tax itself is being questioned. And no wonder: vehicles are becoming more fuel efficient, CAFE standards are becoming more stringent, vehicle use is leveling off, and hybrids and electric vehicles are expected to slowly but surely increase their market penetration.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (METRO)
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) with the City of Los Angeles as project co-lead has undertaken an Alternatives Analysis (AA) to study the East San Fernando Valley Transit Corridor. The purpose of an AA is to define, screen, and recommend alternatives to be studied as part of a Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Report (DEIS/DEIR).

Infrastructure is the physical framework upon which the U.S. economy operates and the nation’s standard of living depends. Everything depends on this framework, including transporting goods, powering factories, heating and cooling office buildings, and enjoying a glass of clean water.
ADVOCACY ADVANCE
The new transportation law, MAP-21, gives Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) more responsibility for distributing federal transportation funds. MPOs serving areas with more than 200,000 residents are required to use a competitive process to select projects for funding through the Transportation Alternatives Program.
