In 2015, the U.S. Department of Education awarded Montgomery County Schools an Investing in Innovation (i3) Fund grant. With funding from the grant and additional support from partners,Curriculum Associates, Golden LEAF Foundation and Dream Builders Communications, the school system launched a new initiative, “A Culture Creating Effective Systems for Success” (ACCESS). Montgomery County Schools started a one device per student (1:1) program and outfitted eight buses with WiFi hotspots.

BROADBAND INFRASTRUCTURE OFFICE
…broadband’s benefits are not evenly dispersed and a digital divide, or “a gulf between those who have ready access to the internet and computers,” and those that don’t, is growing. Many communities, typically in sparsely populated or economically-distressed areas lack access to infrastructure or affordable service. Additionally, broadband adoption—the proportion of citizens subscribing to internet service—is low in NC given the rate of broadband availability in the state and contributes to the widening digital divide. This divide, new technologies, user demand, and greater reliance on internet access, necessitates ongoing infrastructure upgrades within our state.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION FOUNDATION (ITIF)
Infrastructure has always been important to nations’ economic growth and success, but the infrastructure needed for today’s economy is rapidly changing with advances in information and communications technology (ICT). This new infrastructure—some of it hybrid infrastructure that integrates both physical and digital aspects, some of it pure digital infrastructure—is critical to delivering the next wave of innovation and economic growth to all but the very poorest of nations.

There is no question that the Internet is a huge boon to the economy and society, but maximizing its potential is only possible if all individuals are online. As a result, it is critical that policymakers closely track broadband adoption rates: the share of households with a DSL, cable, fiber optic, mobile broadband, satellite, or fixed wireless subscription.
INSTITUTE FOR MOBILITY RESEARCH
This study was designed to investigate the impacts on personal mobility that are attributable to people incorporating ICT into their lifestyles. We recognised the need for a holistic approach, drawing on the respective strengths of both qualitative and quantitative methods. We also recognised the need to take into account various contextual factors, such as the affluence of societies, the availability and quality of transport and ICT infrastructures, and attitudinal and cultural factors, which can all play an important part in shaping ICT/ physical mobility relationships.
ASSOCIATION FOR COMPUTING MACHINERY
The complexity and enormous costs of installing new long-haul fiber-optic infrastructure has led to a significant amount of infrastructure sharing in previously installed conduits. In this paper, we study the characteristics and implications of infrastructure sharing by analyzing the long-haul fiber-optic network in the US.
In 2014, the Hawaii State Department of Education developed its Converged Infrastructure Initiative to deliver campus-wide WiFi to all schools. This was an undertaking by the Hawaii DOE’s Office of Information Technology Services and Office of School Facilities and Support Services. The initiative would affect 255 schools and more than 170,000 students.
