Our nation is at a crossroads. Deteriorating infrastructure is impeding our ability to compete in the thriving global economy, and improvements are necessary to ensure our country is built for the future. While we have made some progress, reversing the trajectory after decades of underinvestment in our infrastructure requires transformative action from Congress, states, infrastructure owners, and the American people…Our nation’s infrastructure challenges are significant but solvable. Through strategic, sustained investment, bold leadership, comprehensive planning, and careful preparation for the needs of the future, America’s infrastructure will be improved and restored.

Philadelphia International Airport – Baggage Bridge Installation Timelapse

After six months of detailed planning and coordination, we erected a 91,000-pound, 100-foot-long pre-assembled baggage conveyor bridge over the main airport departure road in less than eight hours. The work took place in the middle of the night to minimize any potential disruption to airport operations.

Operational inefficiencies, passenger congestion, limited retail, access in and out of terminals and the negative passenger experience found in almost every U.S. airport is the result of outdated design, increasingly high demand, a lack of funding investment and a tendency to reject the concept of collaborating with private-sector experts. GAO was asked to explore issues that would be associated with such a change…This report addresses (1) views of selected experts, aviation stakeholders, and the FAA on key transition issues and (2) lessons that can be learned from the transition experiences of selected countries.

North Dakota Oil Boom Calls for Rework of Infrastructure

North Dakota is one of the most remote places in the United States, or should we say ‘was’ one of the most remote. Thanks to an abundance of natural resources, particularly oil, North Dakota is no longer as open as its range used to be…The Minot International Airport, originally built just 20 years ago, is one project under construction to handle the increase in flight and foot traffic in the region. NECA Contractor Main Electric Construction Inc., and their IBEW 714 craftsmen are building it.

Florida’s economy relies heavily on its beaches, the state’s “invisible” coastal infrastructure that protects Florida’s communities. Most of the public view beaches as places where they can participate in outdoor recreational activities. Florida beaches represent its leading tourist destination with about 810 million “day visits” to its beaches annually. This number more than double the number of “day visits” made annually to all U.S. National Parks combined.
