The weekend of Sept. 23 — 26 was a busy one on I-5 in Lynnwood. Construction crews, who work mostly at night and behind barrier to stay out of your daytime commute, had to pull the last year’s work together and connect the new ramps to I-5.
The time lapse is 21 hours of work condensed down to about 60 seconds. A lot of equipment and a lot of workers. (This is what we are talking about when we say WSDOT projects provide jobs! Each one of those people works for Northwest Construction, a private construction company.)
It’s difficult to explain in words what we are doing up there. In short, we are separating the traffic that comes off and on at these busy interchanges between I-405 and 196th Street, Lynnwood’s big retail hub. Separating the traffic into neat, organized lanes will reduce congestion and the number of collisions. Traffic will just flow better.
We are close to completing all the work on this $33 million project. Mid-October is the deadline to have a majority of the ramps open. –wdsot on YouTube
