Future City is a cross-curricular program that lets students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades do the things engineers do: identify problems, brainstorm ideas, design solutions, test and retest, build and then share the results. Future City is a program of DiscoverE. 

Since last fall, 40,000 middle school students from 1,300 schools have been engaged in the 2015-16 Future City® Competition. This year’s challenge: Waste Not, Want Not, which challenged students to design waste management systems of the future.

A city of the future – Ville Suave – engineered by students from the Academy for Science and Foreign Language in Huntsville, Alabama – has won the grand prize today at the 2016 Future City® Competition.

Here’s a little more about their city: 

Located 215 kilometers northwest of Paris, the quality of life in Ville Suave is enhanced by futuristic services, such as Smart-Life Bracelets, green energy, a holographic education system, and safety drones. The bracelets monitor health and communicate wirelessly with your doctor and emergency services. Green energy includes solar panels, geothermal, algae biofuel, and wind. Holographic technology allows for an effective education system that adapts to each individual’s needs. Safety drones report emergencies to appropriate emergency personnel as needed.
