InfrastructureUSA.org is a non-profit, online community whose mission is to bring together infrastructure experts, industry leaders, government officials and most especially interested citizens, to participate in vigorous conversation and generate action to address the U.S. infrastructure crisis.

BALCONY (the Business And Labor Coalition Of New York) is hosting a breakfast forum in honor of the Gateway Project, a proposal for rail-based infrastructure improvements in the New York City metro area.

The BALCONY Gateway Breakfast Forum will take place on November 13th, 2015, in the ballroom of 4 West 43rd St.

Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY) is slated as the keynote speaker. Forum panelists will include:

• Denise Richardson, Executive Director of the General Contractors Association
• Barbara Armand, President of PWC and President and CEO of Armand Corporation
• Petra Messick, Infrastructure Planning Manager of Amtrak
• Terrence Moore, Business Manager, Local 46 Metallic Lathers Union and Reinforcing Ironworkers
• Steven CF Anderson, Managing Director, InfrastructureUSA.org
• Mark Jaffe, President, Greater New York Chamber of Commerce

As well as other experts, advocates and officials.

Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) is a senior member of the House Infrastructure and Transportation Committee. For over thirty years he has been a leading proponent of expanding and improving rail transportation in the New York metropolitan region. The Gateway Project is a proposal for a number of rail infrastructure improvements that include a high-speed rail corridor under the Hudson River to alleviate the congestion blocking the Northeast Corridor between Newark, New Jersey, and New York City. Both NY Governor Andrew Cuomo and NJ Governor Chris Christie have agreed that the project is necessary for the economic development and sustainability of the Northeast Corridor and have committed to funding half of the project with $14 billion of state money. Federal funding of the remainder is still in its early stages.

The Northeast Corridor is home to close to 17 percent of America’s population and is responsible for approximately 20 percent of America’s gross domestic product. The Gateway Project is an essential step to protect and enhance the capacity, safety, and sustainability of transportation in the region. In addition to improving and streamlining the transportation of goods in the region, the Gateway project would also add critical train slots to the current system used by Amtrak and New Jersey Transit, which are currently at full capacity. Finally, the Gateway Project would repair the extensive damages the system sustained from hurricane Sandy.
